Water Filter Project
In this project our assignment was to create an efficient, easy to use, low cost water filter for a chosen location (Kenya, Nova Scotia, Varasani, and South Wales). My group chose the Nova Scotia, Canada as our location. Our water filter was originally going to be a pipe layered with sand, rocks, coffee filters, and activated charcoal with two 2 liter soda bottles attached with an adapter but due to not being able to acquire some resources we ended up using rolled up gauze with a string tied around it connected to an empty 2 liter soda bottle with duct tape. All in all I don't think our water filter was the best there is but I think that our strong efforts could've made a really good water filter, given more time.

Snow Science Project
Snow science is relevant in my life for two main reasons. One reason is because I live in a state where we usually get quite a bit of snow which leads to avalanche danger in certain areas. If you enjoy backcountry skiing like some members of my family you need to know how to check the snowpack to see how high of a danger you’re at for an avalanche occurrence. The second reason is so I can help educate others about snowpack and avalanche studies to help them stay safe. If I can’t help others with knowledge such as this I feel as though I’m letting an opportunity pass.
I now understand how much of a need we have here in the American West for water and snow. If we don’t get enough snow and a good snowpack we usually get fires in this area but compared to other areas we have it lucky. Water plays a role in literally everything we do. Our showers, drinking water, our plants, among other things. We are at the start of the Colorado River whereas Mexico gets the last bit. If we can preserve water as much as we can at the head, the better off other places such as Nevada and Mexico will be. I feel that through this project I gained a skill in the teamwork department. It was hard to work with a friend of mine at the start of the project so we didn’t get very far until the last couple of days but as time went on, I learned that listening to others and their ideas can change your ideas and perspectives. Our project didn’t turn out as great as either one of us would have liked it too but in the end I learned a valuable lesson that will last me a lifetime. |

In the YOLO Project we learned how to tell if a website is a reliable source or not, the anatomy of the brain, and how helmets work. The following is the link to the video mentioned in the slideshow above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMpVvP4lyaM
